Public meeting: Support the Socialist Equality Party in the New South Wales state election!

The Socialist Equality Party (SEP) is holding its final public meeting for the New South Wales (NSW) state election campaign on Thursday, March 23 at 7 p.m. (AEDT). Register now for the online meeting!

In a campaign dominated by lies, mudslinging and diversion, the SEP’s campaign is alone in taking forward the fight by the working class against the policies of war, austerity and “let it rip” COVID policies supported by every other party.

The SEP is alone in raising the critical issue of war, under conditions where a major conflict is already underway. Throughout its campaign, the SEP has explained that the war in Ukraine is not an isolated, regional conflict. Instead, it is the opening shot of a Third World War that threatens nuclear catastrophe.

The US and NATO are waging what is, in all but name, a war against Russia. Having provoked Putin’s reactionary invasion, the US has done everything to escalate the conflict. It has poured over a hundred billion dollars of military aid into Ukraine, including tanks and other offensive weaponry. For the strategists of the Pentagon, the aim is to inflict a military defeat on Russia, as the prelude to a war against China, which is viewed as the chief rival of American imperialism.

Australia, with the support of Labor, the Coalition and the Greens, is a significant contributor to the US-NATO war effort in Ukraine. In the Indo-Pacific, Australia has been placed on the frontlines of the war drive against China.

Together with our sister parties internationally, the SEP is building an international anti-war movement of the working class directed against the source of war, the capitalist system itself.

In its campaign, the SEP alone is drawing the connection between this militarist program and the social catastrophe facing millions of workers. While governments provide hundreds of billions to the war machine, they claim that there is no money for education, healthcare and other vital social services.

The social crisis has been exacerbated by the unchecked spread of COVID-19. All the official parties claim the pandemic is over, but this is an outright lie. More Australians died in the first two weeks of 2023 than in 2020 and 2021 combined and as many as 25,000 lost their lives last year. The NSW Liberal government, with the crucial backing of Labor, removed all successful mitigation measures and let the virus rip.

Since May, this offensive has been overseen by the federal Labor government, which has presided over most of the deaths in the entire pandemic.

The SEP demands the immediate reintroduction of all safety measures and the placing of health and life before profit. The pandemic can and must be brought to an end, but this can only be done based on a scientific policy that is not subordinated to profit accumulation.

The SEP tells workers the truth. None of the issues they confront will be resolved in this election. They are international in scope and cannot be addressed within national borders or the framework of capitalism. Workers need their own revolutionary party, with a clear socialist and international perspective based on the lessons of history.

At the meeting, our candidates who are leading members of the SEP will outline the global context within which the election is occurring and will present its socialist and internationalist program. Ample time will be provided for questions and discussion. Register today!
